Riches secures Cat 2
OCRT is celebrating its first member achieving Category 2 status after the club’s Tim Riches tasted success in the Omega Thorney Island Circuit Race on Sunday (12 Sep). Riches powered to an impressive solo victory over the 56km course, escaping early with two fellow riders before making a sole bid for glory midway through the race. Thereafter, his strong time-trialling technique was put to good use as he maintained his advantage over the chasing pack to record his second win of the season, and with it achieved the necessary points to start next season as a Category 2 rider. It was a welcome change of fortune for the South Harting rider as two of his previous races had resulted in significant high-speed crashes and abandonments.
Big Ben scales the heights of Ventoux
OCRT’s Ben Llloyd decided that the perfect preparation for his first climb of the famous Mont Ventoux was two weeks drinking wine and laying on a sun lounger in Spain! Undeterred, he stopped off on the way back, hired a bike and set off on a gruelling ascent, reaching the summit some 2 hours later. The East Hants climbs will never feel the same again!
2010 Southern Sportive
Holidays were mainly to blame for the poor OCRT turn out on this year’s SS. However, Luke ‘Tipper’ Ryan saved our blushes by producing a sterling ride. 2011 should see a strong OCRT contingent taking part.
Regular team rides depart from Petersfield Square on Sundays at 08.30.
Saturday 31 July

The Motley Crew
Owens Cycles team members enjoyed better weather at last sundays Gorrick Series Brass Monkeys event, supported by Merida Bikes. In the 2 hour mens race Glen Panton finished 45th, Michael Pinner finished 16th in the 2hr 40+ mens and Craig Boddice finished 20th in the 4hr male. Well done!
Having given careful consideration to the weather forecast for the coming week, it has been decided that Gorrick will CANCEL the first round of the Saddle Skedaddle Spring Series which was to be held next Sunday 17 January 2010 at Frith Hill, Deepcut. It was felt that as milder weather is not expected to arrive until Friday, there would be insufficient time for the lying snow to clear from the course and car park, and that it was better for all concerned to make the decision now, rather than at the end of the week. We very much regret the inconvenience this may cause.
We have decided to replace this event with an additional Spring Series Round 6 to be held on Sunday 16 May 2010 at Frith Hill, Deepcut and this will become the final round of the series. Final Series prizes and awards will be presented at this round, not at Round 5.
All entries received to date for the Spring Series Round 1 will be automatically transferred to the new Round 6. If any riders wish to transfer their entry to a different round, or receive a refund, they should e-mail us in good time at info@gorrick.com stating what they want to do. Otherwise you don’t need to do anything if you are happy to race in Round 6.
Apologies again for what has been a very difficult decision – see you at the Brass Monkeys Round 3 on 31 January!

This blog is where we will be posting news of our race teams exploits. We currently have riders competing in MTB XC and Trials both at regional and national level, and a group of road cyclists who are looking to begin racing in 2010. After a successful 2009 it will be an exciting year!
